Evidence-Based Research in Economic Policy & Development

The SAIPAR Economics and Development Division operates through a network of research fellows, scholars, and collaborative institutions. Its objective is to be recognized as a leader in providing timely, evidence-based research to support economic governance and policymaking.

Research & Projects

The division undertakes **commissioned and proactive research** across various thematic areas in economics and development. Some of its major research initiatives include:

  • International Development Research Center (IDRC) Project: Examining **Innovation Support Programs for SMEs** in Zambia and Zimbabwe.
  • International Labour Organization (ILO) Project: Conducting a **systematic sector analysis** for designing a **productivity ecosystem** in Zambia.
  • African Development Bank (AfDB) Study: Comparing the **development experiences of South Korea and Zambia**.

Publications & Collaborations

The division also contributes to SAIPAR’s **two flagship journals**:

  • The **Zambia Social Science Journal (ZSSJ)** - A peer-reviewed interdisciplinary journal focused on social sciences and development.
  • The **Southern African Journal of Policy and Development** - A publication featuring critical research on policy and governance in the region.
