The Economics and Development Division at SAIPAR operates through a network of reserach fellows and researchers and scholars from collaborative institutions. The objective of the Division is to be recognised as a leader in providing timely evidence – based research responsive to economic governance and policy making. The Division undertakes commissioned and pro-active research in broad thematic areas and cross-cutting issues wthin the realm of economics and development.
Some of the research the Division has undertaken are the International Development Research Center (IDRC) project on” Evidence for Innovation project. This research looks at the Innovation Support Programmes for Small and Meduim -sized enterprises in Zambia and Zimbabwe. The International Labour Organization (ILO) project on productivity and decent work. This is a systematic sector analysis for the design of a productivity ecosystem for Zambia and the African Development Bank (AfDB) research on the comparative development experiences of South Korea and Zambia.
The unit also participates in the oroduction of two SAIPAR journals; The Zambia Social Science Journal and the Southern African Journal of Policy and Development.
