Economics and Development Division

The Economics and Development Division at SAIPAR operates through a network of research fellows and researchers, as well as scholars from collaborative institutions. The objective of the Division is to be recognised as a leader in providing timely, evidence-based research responsive to economic governance and policymaking. The Division undertakes commissioned and proactive research in broad thematic areas and cross-cutting issues within the realm of economics and development.

Research & Projects

Some of the research the Division has undertaken includes:

  • International Development Research Centre (IDRC) – Evidence for Innovation project: Research on Innovation Support Programmes for small and medium-sized enterprises in Zambia and Zimbabwe.
  • International Labour Organization (ILO) – Productivity and Decent Work: A systematic sector analysis to inform the design of a productivity ecosystem for Zambia.
  • African Development Bank (AfDB): Comparative research on the development experiences of South Korea and Zambia.

Publications

The unit also participates in the production of two SAIPAR journals: the Zambia Social Science Journal and the Southern African Journal of Policy and Development.
